SOMETHING TO WRITE ABOUT

I remember seeing bullpen rookie Tyler Walker's first game with the Giants. It was a couple of seasons ago. It was a day game, I don't remember who the Giants were playing. Announcers introduced him as one of the few San Francisco natives to play for the Giants. We greeted him with the hooting and howling one reserves for rock stars. A young kid, blond and big, who loves to help kids with disabilities learn to pitch.

He's had a tough couple of seasons, although when he's on, he's really on. As a new fan to baseball, only four years into fandom, I haven't had much of a chance to watch a nobody come up through the ranks and become a star of tomorrow.

Tonight, Tyler Walker proved, not for the first time, that he's more than capable of closing a game. With the Giants' star closer, Benitez, on the long-term DL, we've had nothing but fumes after the seventh inning. Ah, but tonight, how Tyler Walker shone.

Watch this boy, who just turned 29, do a thing or two in coming years. I will.
