JEFF KENT, SITH LORD

I'd like to say I was heartbroken, outraged, disappointed, apoplectic, or in some other violent and dramatic state when Jeff Kent, during last night's extra-inning 2-2 game between Giants and Dodgers, hit a home run, clinching a 4-2 win for LA.

In fact, I was just annoyed. Jeff Kent, Jeff Kent, Jeff Kent. Why, oh, why does he continually haunt San Francisco? He's like a bully who always waits at the same corner when you're walking home from school. You know you have to face him. You know he's going to give you trouble. You know he's probably going to have the upper hand. Not always, but often enough to vex you.

More than anything, I yearned last night for the antidote to Jeff Kent: Barry Bonds. Had Barry been playing—even at diminished capacity—we might have gotten an extra run, perhaps even two, just because of the way he tilts any game he's in. And that tilt might have prevented Jeff Kent from making the most of a run-lite game.

Poor Jeremy Accardo, the Giant's losing pitcher last night. A cursory glance of his stats: he's got no wins and 4 losses in 19 appearances. I watched his humiliating debut on May 7, when the Nationals, in a rare power-hitting appearance, blasted the Giants into the bay. Daniel over at Orange & Black will hopefully have something statistically meaningful to say about this young kid.
