OH, NO! | OH, YES!
I choose this title because I'm listening to game 5 of the NY/LA contest. My dislike for each team is a matter of record, but, hey, I've got to root for somebody, right? And that somebody sure ain't the Yankees.
Yankees blew onto the board in the top of the 2nd with 2 runs, but were seen and raised in the bottom of the inning with three runs from the Angels, featuring a 2-run triple on the (I tried not to laugh) collision of Bubba Crosby and Gary Sheffield. Unfortunately, starter Colon pitched only one inning, making LA vulnerable to bullpen fatigue.
As much as I'd like to see New York lose this series, I think a contest at the league level between Chicago and the Yankees would be far more dramatic than a matchup between Chicago and LA.
[8:51 PM CT] Angels just added two runs in the bottom of the 3rd, making it 5-2. This is actually turning into a (very long) pretty juicy duke-nukem. Oh, they just removed Mike Mussina—and called up Randy Johnson. This is going to get ugly.
[9:15 PM CT] Well, the Angels' rookie pitcher Ervin Santana, who relieved injured Colon in the 2nd, has been, as Darth Vader would say, "most impressive." He just shut down the Yankees in the top of the 5th after they had put two men on base. Bottom of the 5th? Randy just retired the side in, like, 40 seconds. Frightening.
[10:46 PM CT] "The $200,000,000 team falls a couple of bucks short" is my favorite quote of the entire season. I'll sleep well tonight. Angels 5, Yankees 3. Heh and goodnight.
