LET THE GAMES END
I can't think of a better way to end my baseball season than in the company of my dad. Tomorrow, I'm hopping on a plane to D.C., where I grew up, to hang with my Mom, Dad, and baby sis for a week. It's not a vacation vacation, but it's restorative and a lot of fun to spend time with my nuclear.
Earlier this year, I treated my dad to a few days of spring training in Scottsdale, which we both loved and still talk about. We're going to head out to RFK on Tuesday through Friday of next week for 3 Giants games and one Mets game.
It's a great time for both Washington and San Francisco. The Giants flirt with improbable division contention. Of course, they have to keep winning while LA and San Diego keep losing. An unlikely scenario. Meanwhile, the Nationals stare the NL Wildcard in the face, only 3 games behind (and possibly 2 if their amazing lead over San Diego in the 9th tonight persists). Nationals beating Padres is a good thing for everyone.
Of course, the 3-game series between D.C. and San Francisco will be very painful for one or the other team. If the Nationals triumph, they'll take the Wildcard lead. If the Giants triumph (and the Dodgers and Padres collect more losses), San Francisco might end their year on a sweet instead of sour note.
I've talked before about my torn alliances. But let me be clear on this (God, I sound like Donald Rumsfeld). I am going to be in RFK, watching D.C. baseball for the first time in my life. I want the Nationals to win. This just isn't the Giants year to do anything. The Nationals, on the other hand...
I'm also excited about watching the Mets. I've never done that—attending baseball games without ever seeing a New York team live seems unnatural.
Regardless of how the week's games turn out (wins and losses), it's going to be a lot of fun. Can't wait to pick up my Brad Wilkerson jersey. I'm bringing my Alou t-shirt and my Vader '77 jersey.
If I can edit and upload from my dad's place, I'll send video installments recorded with my new JVC GR-D270u camcorder.
