WHATCHOO TALKIN' 'BOUT, DEIVI?

Oh, I've been a bad blogger. I failed to note the personally important trade of Deivi Cruz from the Giants to the Nationals. Deivi and I go way back. Actually, we don't, but we chatted briefly in a grocery store in Scottsdale, where he generously listened to me blather on about a great home run he made during the game I attended that day.

I know hardcore Giants fans don't really miss him, and I'll readily admit that he wasn't much good to San Francisco, but there are worse utility players, and perhaps the Nationals can shore up his sometimes lackluster performance. Frankly, I wish Washington had banked the trade money and thrown it at a far better player in the offseason. I kind of like Deivi, though, and wish him well.

  • You know what, I disagree with you. Deivi Cruz did everything the Giants could hope for. He hit better than expected for much of his tenure, and while his defense wasn't anything to write home about, he played the position well enough for a backup.

Picking him up turned out to be a good move for Brian Sabean. While yes, I don't miss Deivi, he is a useful utility guy. I wish him luck.

  • I miss Deivi. I will never the day when he hit 5-5 at the Reds and put the Giants ahead. He had some timely hits for the Giants. He is a good guy to have in a clubhouse.
