BARRY

Regardless of what happens to the Giants for the remainder of the season, the return of Barry Bonds, starting tonight at SBC, no doubt will be a huge morale boost for all parties involved: teammates, management, and fans. Padres are talking like they won't do anything they don't usually do, but that's just silly talk. Adam Eaton will adjust his game to accommodate the injection of the super slugger.

I'm bummed that Moises injured himself just yesterday, and won't be batting behind Barry—the master plan ever since Younger Alou was acquired. But with J.T. Snow batting before him and Durham batting fifth, a little somethin' something might happen.

Is it possible that in 20 games Barry could play well enough and consistently enough to get those paltry 11 home runs he needs to pass Babe Ruth? Sure, it's possible, if he hits .55 home runs per game every game until the end. Well within a healthy Bonds' grasp.

So, tonight, I'm going to a bar in Bernal Heights here in San Francisco to watch his "debut," and shriek like a little girl along with the rest of the patrons when he's at bat. Next week, I get to watch Barry in Washington when the Giants take on the Nationals at RFK. Camera charged! Video ready! Bring it, Barry, bring it!
