NLCS: GAME 2: HOUSTON @ ST. LOUIS: 4-1 Houston
Since I have no prediction mojo for the ALCS games, I'll see if I can extend my accuracy streak here in the National League. I forgot how much I like Chris Burke, and he got tonight's first run. We're going to the 4th, 1-0 Houston, and I predict the Astros are still going to lose.
[Update] Wowie zowie, is Chris Burke Houston's Jeff Francoeur? A super-talented rookie thrust into professional ball after racking up great numbers in the minors, taking names, but no prisoners? There I go, romanticizing baseball players.
Already, young Burke's 18th-inning home run won Houston the division series against Atlanta. In game 2 of the league championship tonight, Burke scored the first run on some hot small ball, and in the top of the 8th, drove in a run on a single and then ran home on a triple by Adam Everett.
He's been central to the success of the Astros in two of Houston's last three games.
Score right now? 4-1, Houston in the 8th. Reggie Sanders just damaged himself in center field trying to do something with Everett's triple. He landed good and hard on his tailbone and then the back of his head. Painful to watch. Hope he's OK. Sanders used to play for the Giants (when the Giants were good), so I have a soft spot for the dynamo. So far, very good game, with sweet pitching.
[Update 2] Can someone explain to me why there are two security guards—two—in the Cardinals dugout? You're shitting me if you tell me that America's grotesque security industrial complex has wormed its way into the dugout. Fifteen or so big athletic macho men need protection from what, exactly?
