SYNCHRONIZED CLOB-O-RAMA

Wow, the Nationals and the Cubs got spanked today. With Dontrelle Willis pitching for the Marlins and rookie John Koronka pitching for Chicago, I'm not terribly surprised the Windy City lost, but 7 Florida runs in one inning reminds me of the day back in San Diego that the Cubs heaped similar punishment on the Padres.

Then, to compound the day of clobbering, the Angels, as I write, just got 5 runs in one inning off of Sunny Kim, to bring the game in the 4th to 7-0. The Nationals are getting a reputation for coming from behind...but not by that much. It's not over until it's over, but this is a rare blowout so far.

[later] Holy Moses, the Angels have gotten 20 hits and 11 runs to the Nationals 5/1. It's almost surreal. The reason I'm excited is that these two teams lead their divisions...and I'm frothing at the mouth to learn over the next few games of the series whether 1) this is a fluke, 2) Frank Robinson has a full-court retaliation plan, 3) whether one of these teams can characterize a distinct superiority over the other, e.g., the Angels offense tonight made the Nationals look like little girls. Is that because our pitching failed? Because our offense had jet lag? Or is the enemy really that much better? It's going to take me at least three games to figure it out (since I haven't watched a single game involving the Angels before tonight).
