THE WAY THINGS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE

Like Tony the Tiger, I feel Grrreaaaaat! You know that threat we always talk about? The one that says with a starting rotation of Maddux, Prior, Zambrano and Wood we should be damn near unstoppable. Well... and I don't want to get too excited or anything, but... It's here! It's here! It's here!

Saturday, June 25th: After the Cubs got clobbered the day before, Greg Maddux took the mound against baseball's strongest team, the Chicago White Sox, and allowed only two runs over six innings. Aramis Ramirez hit a grand slam homerun (happy birthday!) and the bullpen pitched three scoreless innings.
Result: Cubs win, 6 - 2.

Sunday, June 26th: Again against the dangerous White Sox, this time Mark Prior making his return from an arm fracture. How does he do? Nothing short of pitching six spectacular innings of one hit, scoreless baseball. Another solid performance from the bullpen and the Cubs took two out of three from the Sox.
Result: Cubs win, 2 - 0.

Tuesday, June 28th: Zambrano got chased after only an inning and a half in his last outing (which also happened to be against the Brewers). Here, he made them pay, giving up only three hits through eight scoreless innings. Ryan Dempster closed out the ninth to record his twelfth save.
Result: Cubs win, 2 - 0.

Wednesday, June 29th: Kerry Wood returned triumphantly from two months on the DL with six innings of two hit, nine strike out, one run baseball. It was a tight game and Wood didn't get the win, but the bullpen kept it close and the Cubs bats brought home just enough.
Result: Cubs win, 3 - 2.
