MAXIMUM CANCELLATION

Here we are in the top of the 8th, game 2 of the Nationals@Phillies. The score is 0-0, with only 7 hits in the entire game. Philadelphia's Eric Lidle and D.C.'s John Patterson are so well matched they're effectively cancelling each other out.

Some people love these pitching duels, but this one is boring me to tears. I mean, somebody has to score sooner or later, right? Is there such a thing as a scoreless game? How long, technically, can these guys play each other before somebody cries "Uncle?"

[Update] Infuriating! Infuriating! Infuriating! Hector Carrasco relieved John Patterson and in the bottom of the 9th, allowed the bases to load with 1 out. Damn him! Damn him! A sac fly allowed the man on third to score, giving Philadelphia 1 run in the bottom of the ninth. They won, 1-0. Bastards! Aaaaaargh!
