EVERY STORY HAS A BEGINNING

What an amazing day for watching baseball. Thank [preferred deity] for MLB.com.

I caught the tail end of Padres@Cubs contest 1 of 2, in which the latter took a beating. Caught the tail end of the Nationals@Braves game, in which D.C.'s new team proved themselves -- at least statistically -- equal to Atlanta and Florida with a 5-4 standing in the NL east. Watched every juicy minute of Mark Prior's triumphant return to the mound in game 2 of the Padres@Cubs double header. How rare and giddy that each game yielded 8-3 scores, reversed for each team. It's an amazing demonstration of how central pitching is to your result.

Right now -- in bitter anticipation of the Giants@Dodgers game this evening -- I'm watching Boston's Kurt Schilling (how cool is he?) contain the apparently methadone-addled Yankees. Few things are as sweet as watching the Yankees flounder like beached whales. Yay Boston.
